“RUNNING FOR YOUTH-AT-RISK “LEE כי אכפת לי”
IN THE 4TH JERUSALEM MARATHON ON MARCH 21st, 2014
TO BENEFIT YOUTH-AT-RISK IN JERUSALEM

We urge you to support the direly-needed expansion of projects offered in Jerusalem to youth who have “lost their way” and are in danger of serious trouble, such as drug and alcohol abuse, deviant sexual behavior, crime and violence, and, as in the heartbreaking case of our beautiful daughter, Lee Gabriella Vatkin z”l, sometimes death.
On June 7th 2010, at the tender age of 16, Lee tragically lost her life on the streets of Jerusalem when “friends” stood by and watched a well-known drug-dealer poison her bottle of drink with a massive overdose of methadone. Lee was exceptionally bright and remarkably creative and talented, and was not identified as seriously “at-risk” in time to prevent her from falling through the cracks of the system. Lee might be alive today had there been more comprehensive social services aware of the nuances, not just of the obvious dangers, but of the more subtle, and in Lee’s case, ultimately fatal, perils which are less obvious to decipher and solve.

On February 5th 2014, Lee would have – and should have – been celebrating her 20th birthday.

In supporting one of our initiatives, we are asking you not just to commemorate our daughter, but to celebrate her short, yet phenomenal life and help make a huge difference in the lives of other vulnerable youth of Jerusalem and their families. Through our AMI-Neshima program, we are seeing more and more that, reaching out just with love and non-judgment to our troubled youth, and offering them ways to express their often-suppressed and misguided creativity, sparks a process and instills a sense of purpose in them that they have lost. Helping them back onto a path of positivity will not only eventually lead to more successful behavior patterns, but will also instill an invaluable sense of pride, maturity, respect and responsibility.
Let us join forces and combat the terrible phenomena of the ever-increasing numbers of our kids joining the ranks of the disenfranchised youth from all sectors of our social spectrum leading to life-threatening behavior patterns, destroying the very fabric of our society.
Please help us to help them!
